Kate Thompson
Small Groups Musical Director

Kate Thompson graduated from the music department at the University of Sheffield. Since graduating, Kate has taken on a number of roles within music education including General Manager of Soundpost Community Network and lecturer on the Theatre, Performance and Acting Degree at Rotherham College. She is currently Learning and Participation Producer at Music in the Round, overseeing their music education work across the country which reaches over 17,000 people a year.

Kate teaches both singing and violin in Sheffield and is a sought after voice specialist who delivers voice and singing workshops in an exciting variety of contexts. She has recently completed postgraduate research under the tutelage of voice specialists Jenevora Williams and Declan Costello, focussing on folk singers and their approaches to singing. Having been a past member herself whilst at university, in 2014 she began working with The University of Sheffield Singers’ Society and is now the artistic director of their small ensembles.

Kate is passionate about the power of music in the Early Years and regularly leads workshops encouraging teachers to use music as a tool to support learning throughout the EYFS and National Curriculum. She is also a volunteer fundraiser for the Building Bonds Project, which donates and fits slings to families in financial or social hardship.
