Chorus is the largest of our choirs, usually consisting of 80-100 singers. We cover a wide variety of repertoire under the direction of Peter Taylor and with the accompaniment of Ruth Nicholson. No auditions or previous experience is required – just turn up, have fun and sing some exciting music! We sing from sheet music but you don’t need to have done this before: We’ll learn in a way that will support you to develop the level of music reading you need to sing successfully.

Thursdays 19.15-21.15
Location: Arts Tower LT6
This is our mixed chamber choir, consisting of approximately 30 voices. Directed by Pete Taylor and accompanied by Yang Guo, we cover a wide variety of repertoire in a more intimate setting than found in Chorus. No auditions for this choir either, but rehearsals are paced so that we learn music quickly, and often work on more challenging repertoire than we do in Chorus. Because of this, we recommend that members have some choral experience and are confident with reading sheet music.

Our chamber choir for upper voices, Melodia usually has approximately 15-20 singers. This choir sings a variety of repertoire in 2, 3 or 4 parts, directed by Pete Taylor and accompanied by Yang Guo. There are no auditions, but rehearsals are paced so that we learn music quickly, and often work on more challenging repertoire than we do in Chorus. Because of this, we recommend that members have some choral experience and are confident with reading sheet music.

Our lower voices choir is directed by Pete Taylor and accompanied by Ruth Nicholson, and is Singsoc’s newest choir. We rehearse for just half an hour a week before Chorus and anyone is welcome who would normally sing tenor or bass.
